Activity- Who’s
in a Family?!
PREPARATION
Print out pictures of family members (mother,
father, brother, sister, baby, grandma, grandpa, etc.). Laminate and put magnets on back so they
stick to magnet board. Also print out
doubles of the mom, dad, brother, baby, and dog. Cut out and make a set of finger puppets for
the song.
ACTIVITY
Talk to the children about who’s in a family
(mom, dad, brother, sister, baby, dog, grandma, grandpa, etc.) As they name off family members put the
pieces up on the board. If they can’t
think of any, put the pieces on the board and help them name them off. Talk about the role of each family
member. After you have talked about it,
say the rhyme below with the finger puppets.

the children to smooth the shaving cream onto the table. They can draw a
circle and add eyes, nose, mouth hair, etc. They can add their family
members, pets, etc.

drawing the circle for the face make sure to have the children help you and
identify the shape

|
Children can make people with the play dough. Encourage them to make
a family. Add Barbie shoes to the area for the children to add to the feet of
their family.

Family Hugs
|
Have each child make his or her handprints with multicultural paint
on white paper. Provide each child with a strip of adding machine tape as
wide as their arms. Glue handprints at each end and write “I Love My Family”
on the strip of paper in between the hands to make a banner.

|
Print out family pictures on sticker paper, or use normal paper and
glue. Have children cut out pictures
(if old enough) and use glue to make a collage on construction paper. Talk to them about the pictures they are
using.

Alternate Art Projects
Rock Families-Take a walk and have the children
collect four or five different sized rocks to make a family. Bring them back
and paint them. Then let the children play with their families. Encourage them
to make up stories about their rock families. For example have them name their
rocks and tell what each one likes to do. Help them expand their stories by
asking questions.Take pictures of children with parents permission and do a photo album for daycare. Put special notes by pictures and leave this out so both kids and families can enjoy.Also have parents to bring pictures of child and them and grandparents.
